Ambassador Spotlight: The Latorre Family

A little known fact is that the Takata airbag recall disproportionately affects Spanish speaking communities throughout the US and US territories. According to the Takata Monitor, zip codes where a majority of residents are of Hispanic descent are more likely to have unrepaired faulty Takata airbag than regions with lower concentrations of residents of Hispanic descent. As a part of our efforts to reach out to the Hispanic community, we recently collaborated with Carma Ambassadors...the Latorre Family.

The Latorre Family have a popular Youtube channel where they typically share their family adventures through a series of weekly vlogs. This was the perfect opportunity to work with them to create a short video to help raise awareness about the Takata airbag recall with their fans and subscribers.

This was incredibly important because a large part of their audience can be found in hot and humid climates such as Florida and Puerto Rico. These environments are at GREATER risk for death or injury, from a recalled airbag, because this type of climate can accelerate the deterioration of defective airbag inflators.

In Puerto Rico alone there are at least 100,000 unrepaired Takata vehicles. In Florida, at least 300,000.

So far, the response has been great. The Latorre Family have helped over 1,500 people check the recall status of their vehicle!

The Latorre Family also helped us spread the word about our Carma site being available in Spanish; so if you know anyone who would prefer to participate in our program in Spanish, please let them know!

So if you haven’t checked your vehicle for an active recall, now is the perfect time to do so.

As the Latorre Family says, “This recall is very real and affects people that you and I know, so please don’t forget to check your vehicle.”
