It is finally summer and we know that lots of our ambassadors are preparing to embark on extended road trips and spend more time with their families. Here’s some important information about summer driving trends, including safety precautions that you can take to make sure that you stay safe and have a fun summer.
The AAA Foundation’s latest Traffic Safety Culture Index reports that: drinking, driving, speeding, and distraction are among top killers of teen drivers. The report also states that the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is the worst time of year for crashes and fatalities (statistics based on 2016 NHTSA FARS data). This time period has officially become known as the 100 deadliest days for teen drivers, which makes sense, since there are more road trips, parties, and first time drivers on the road. It’s crucial to talk to your teens about safe driving and ensure that they are being as careful as possible. It’s also important that parents set a good example for their families and practice safe driving tactics.
Here at Carma, we care about everyone’s safety, and we encourage you to check, not just your teen’s, but your vehicle as well, for any dangerous recalls. According to Carfax , there are more than 57 million recalled vehicles still on the road. That roughly translates to 1 out of every 5 vehicles in the US across ALL manufacturers.
Of the 57 million vehicles with an open recall, 41 million are affected by the deadly Takata airbag recall, which puts people living in hotter and more humid climates at a greater risk. These climates break down the materials used in airbag inflators at a quicker rate, which means that even the smallest of fender benders can activate Takata airbags that explode and launch metal fragments towards the driver and/or passenger.
So before you take off to Disneyland or Yosemite, make sure to check that your vehicle is safe to drive. We also encourage you to use this time to talk to your children about road safety.
You can look up any vehicle from any brand on Carma. It takes less than a minute to check and ensure that you and your loved ones are safe. If it turns out that you have a recall, we will provide you with the information you need to repair your vehicle as soon as possible and at no cost.
